Our Movie Morals

The Golden Globes got downsized to a press conference, and the Oscars barely escape by the skin of the writers’ strike, but thank goodness, the Movieguide Annual Faith and Value Awards went off without a hitch on Feb. 12. Amazing Grace won the Epiphany Prize, and Ratatouille was dubbed best family film. Bella received the Fatih & Freedom Award. Metroactive.com critic Richard von Busack loved Ratatouille and was measured in his praise of Amazing Grace (Michael Apted’s story of abolitionist William Wilberforce) but begged to differ on Bella, which he called “propaganda to promote the idea of adoption.” His discussion of Bella, Knocked Up, Juno and the “war on choice” in films appears in the second half of his 2007 Year in Review article.
