NOW IN ITS 10th year, San Francisco's annual NOISE POP FESTIVAL is taking shape. The celebration of indie music runs Feb. 26-March 3 and offers at least 20 shows at various San Francisco venues, six film-festival screenings and more. With a tentative schedule available online at www.noisepop.com, some notable lineups at this year's event include DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, the DISMEMBERMENT PLAN and AVEO (Feb. 26 at BIMBO'S); a collaboration between JOHN DOE and NEKO CASE plus COURT AND SPARK, VIRGIL SHAW and PAULA FRAZER (March 1 at the GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC HALL); MODEST MOUSE and the AISLER'S SET (March 1 at Bimbo's); and the DONNAS, the PATTERN and VUE (March 2 at Bimbo's). Other bands confirmed for the festival include ORANGER, TRACKSTAR, the GLANDS, FOR STARS, PEDRO THE LION and I AM SPOONBENDER.

In their seventh annual outing, sister music festivals the SNO-CORE rock tour and the ICICLE BALL (fondly dubbed the Hippie-Hop) swing through the Bay Area. The Icicle Ball boasts two stops in the Bay Area with KARL DENSON'S TINY UNIVERSE, BLACKALICIOUS and SAUL WILLIAMS playing the SANTA CRUZ CIVIC AUDITORIUM on Feb. 17 and taking over the WARFIELD for two nights March 1-2. MICHAEL FRANTI AND SPEARHEAD are the special guests in Santa Cruz, while OZOMATLI joins the lineup at the Warfield. Sno-Core hits the Santa Cruz Civic on March 25 with headliners ALIEN ANT FARM plus FENIX TX, GLASSJAW and others.
