Council Aides

First Aides

Clearly, diversity is a high priority for the mayor and city council. Three of San Jose's 10 most powerful political aides are people of color. Four are women. But not all council offices are represented in the top tier. Councilmembers and the mayor are allotted a cache of funds each year for staff and office expenses. Some hire more staff at lower pay; others invest in a few well-paid, hard-driving staffers. Here's a tip: If you want to get paid more than $75,000 a year, get on Susan Hammer's staff. As a point in contrast, San Francisco's supervisors are each allotted only two aides who are paid between $43,300 and $52,600.

Name Office Annual Salary
Bob Brownstein Susan Hammer $75,629
Joe Guerra Frank Fiscalini $61,630
Gary Robinson Susan Hammer $61,214
Kevin Pursglove Susan Hammer $59,051
Scarlett Li Lam Susan Hammer $58,323
David Garretson, Jr. George Shirakawa $54,080
Tona Duncanson Trixie Johnson $49,150
Tony Arreola Manny Diaz $47,840
Kelly Kline David Pandori $44,824
Julie Anne Fink-White Trixie Johnson $43,285

Salaries based on hourly rate multiplied by the number of work hours per year (2080).
