WHEN IT'S COLD, as it sometimes is during a California "winter," drinking and dining by the glow of a crackling fire can be just the thing to see you through till spring. Here are five establishments that serve food and libation hearthside.

Cetrella Bistro and Cafe Cetrella doesn't offer an ocean view, but the big fireplace adds to the appeal of this Half Moon Bay standout. 858 Main St., Half Moon Bay. 650.726.4090.

D's Restaurant: Formerly known as Beavers Bar & Grill, this Willow Glen restaurant and bar sports a gas, brick-clad fireplace between its two bars. 1180 Lincoln Ave., San Jose. 408.288.9422.
