[whitespace] One-Card Monte

All Wired Up

By Mark Ewert

I'm weaning myself off an anti-anxiety drug I've been taking for over a year now. It's expensive, and I don't like the feeling that I'm dependent on a pill to keep me functional. So far, the weaning process is going pretty well, but I definitely feel real jumpy, and my sleep's all messed up. What do the cards say?
Ivy, San Francisco

Ivy, sweetie, your card du jour is the Seven of Wands. This depicts a man standing on a hill, holding off attackers with a wand that he wields like a quarterstaff. This represents maintaining your turf against all invaders which, in your case, are probably internal foes. The traditional prediction with this card is that yes, you have to exert yourself right now, but you have the position of advantage, and will eventually end up on top. The last thing I'd say is that Wands go with the element of Fire, which is associated with personal energy, life-force. Anxiety is definitely a malfunction of one's inner wiring, but the circuitry is still healthy and strong: you just gotta let the extra voltage run itself out, and you'll be fine. Do yoga, meditate, go on walks, paint .
