Top Local Wineries

By Stett Holbrook

AT LAST month's rematch of the 1976 Paris Tasting, California wines bested French wines—again. This time, it was a 1971 Ridge Vineyards cabernet sauvignon that came out on top. In addition to the staying power of California cabernets, the event was a reminder that not all of the Golden State's best wineries are in the Napa Valley. In addition to Ridge, here is a list of top local wineries.

Cinnabar Vineyards & Winery Try the estate-grown cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay. 23000 Congress Springs Road, Saratoga. 408.741.5858.

Ridge Vineyards It's not lonely at the top. 17100 Monte Bello Road, Cupertino. 408.867.3233.

Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards Beautiful wines (especially pinot noir) in a beautiful setting. 23600 Congress Springs Road, Saratoga. 408.741.2934.

Testarossa Vineyards Pinot noir is king here. 300 College Ave, Los Gatos. 408.354.6150.

Thomas Fogarty Winery Syrah, pinot noir and gew¸rztraminer all shine. 3270 Skyline Blvd, Portola Valley. 650.851.6777.
