[whitespace] Suspect in Jade Galore robbery arrested

Cupertino--The second of three suspects was arrested on Aug. 9 in connection with last March's Jade Galore jewelry store robbery and murder of a security guard. The suspect, 28-year-old Soewin Chan was arrested during the serving of a search warrant at his residence in Santa Ana, Calif.

A tag from a Rolex watch allegedly stolen from the jewelry store was found at Chan's residence and matches those found at the Jade Galore, according to authorities. The report also indicates that Chan is a suspect in another jewelry store robbery in Costa Mesa, Calif., last September in which several Rolex watches were taken.

Santa Clara County Sheriff's detectives, in conjunction with the Fountain Valley Police Department, made the arrest without incident. Chan was transported to Santa Clara County Jail on Aug. 15 and is currently being held without bail.

The third suspect, 26-year-old Anh The Duong, is awaiting trial in Los Angeles County for possible involvement in the slayings of four people at an El Monte, Calif., nightclub in 1999, according to authorities.

Duong has not been charged in the Jade Galore case at this time, but he has been named in a warrant charging him with the killing of a 66-year-old San Jose man during a robbery at a market in 1999. Alameda County prosecutors have also named Duong as a suspect in a botched robbery attempt at a computer company in Fremont that left one man dead.

On March 13 at approximately 3:15 p.m., three gunmen with assault-type weapons entered the Jade Galore and ordered everyone onto the floor. Security guard Josefino Cambosa, 54, of San Jose, was shot and killed during the robbery.
