Jucifer
Saturday, Dec. 6. The Blank Club, 44 S. Almaden Ave., San Jose, 408.29BLANK; www.theblankclub.com, 9pm. $7

Home is four wheels against the pavement for this deadly duo from Athens, Ga. Like a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde, Jucifer's guitarist and vocalist Amber Valentine and drummer Ed Livengood have been touring nonstop since I Name You Destroyer was released in June 2002 on Velocette Records. They parted with most of their worldly possessions and hit America's interstates to play shows with bands like the Melvins, High on Fire and Local H.

This duo from peach country makes enough noise to raise the dead and kicks up more racket than a band twice its size. Comparisons can be made to L7, the Breeders, Veruca Salt and even Black Sabbath, and Valentine and Livengood take an anything-goes approach to their music, from the scatterbrained banshee punk of "Long Live the King" (off 1998's Calling All Cars on the Vegas Strip) to the fuzzy and sludgy psychedelic suspense of "Lambs No. 4" (from the 2001 Lambs EP). With Valentine's whispery pussycat vocals in the driver's seat, Vegas' "Nickel to Roll" scratches like a lazy feral kitten over slow fuzzed-out guitars and eerie subterranean electronics. It's a dangerous brew to say the least. Jucifer has a bank full of new material and plans to record a new EP and a double album in the near future. (Sarah Quelland)
