Ward to your mother: Undefeated Andre Ward comes to HP Pavilion March 29 for Fight Night.

Andre the Tank Engine

By Felipe Buitrago

LIKE ANCIENT Rome, San Jose has a mighty coliseum: the HP Pavilion. And on March 29, our own modern version of gladiatorial battle returns as Fight Night at the Tank starts a new year with events on March 29, May 24, Sept. 13 and Nov. 4. The first round on Thursday, March 29, at 7:30pm will showcase the return of Oakland's finest, Andre Ward, a tank favorite who, at a mere 23 years of age, is undefeated with 10 wins, five by knockout—probably the reason why his opponent is still to be announced as of presstime. In his last appearance at the Pavilion, he battled Derrick Findley in the main event and took the win after six rounds and a unanimous decision. The main event will feature Jesus "Chuy" Rodriguez. This light welterweight contender from Salinas last fought at the Tank against David Marquez back in September of 2006 in a five-round bout that ended in a unanimous decision for Rodriguez. Some of the other fighters on the bill for March 29 are Arturo Quintero from San Jose, Teke Oruh and Francisco Santana both from Las Vegas, and Keith Spencer from Ventura.
