Situated in former military structures just north of San Francisco, the Headlands Center for the Arts provides an environment for artists from all over the world to cultivate their work and share it with the surrounding community. Now it provides even more for those who choose to visit: an opportunity to bring more than just the sense of sight into their artistic experiences. On Sept. 19, the Center hosts "The Feral Share," a dinner with Chez Panisse chef and artist Jerome Waag and curator Joseph del Pesco.

The evening combines the themes of "surplus" and the idea of foraging for food in an attempt to explore creative ways of dealing with excess. Attendees will not only enjoy a meal prepared from foraged food, but will also meet 12 local artists and engage in a debate about issues ranging from food to politics—because these days food is politics. Guests become members of a jury as they vote for two of the 12 artists to receive the night's proceeds as funding for their next project.

Part of a series of Sunday evening dinners at the Headlands property, the dinner will be served in the Headlands mess hall, a starkly decorated, industrial-chic room designed by sculptor Ann Hamilton. Sonoma Valley wineries celebrate a summer well-fought with the 2010 Sonoma Valley CRUSH. The five-day festival, hosted by the Heart of Sonoma Valley Association, brings 17 wineries together to share their expertise with hands-on activities.
