CELLAR SOUNDS: Panthelion celebrates the Cellar's first birthday on Friday.
By Al Roberts
WHEN HE isn't scouring the globe for new instruments to experiment with and working on his Mandala trilogy, David Knight sits in on electric guitar and electronics for the San Jose Nu Class band Panthelion. The group defines "Nu Class" as "Neo Urban Classical Music,' by which they mean a melding of jazz and classical with deep tribal and electronic rhythms.
For this performance, which coincides with the first anniversary of the Cellar, Panthelion will be joined by the Oakland trio Judgement Day. In a multimedia vein, animator and filmmaker M. Dot Strange will produce a light show. The centerpiece of the concert will be a performance of Name_. Name_. Name_. error, a new work by Andrew "Endika" Currier, commissioned by Anno Domini's own Brian Eder.
PANTHELION and JUDGEMENT DAY play Friday (Feb. 27) at 9pm at the Cellar, 399 S. First St., San Jose. Tickets are $5; 21 and over. (408.287.3399)
